Safety first! -> The tip of the control rod can be dangerous. People tend to forget they are waving the control rod wildly. This must be remembered every time you begin a session with the Air-YO™.

The tension of the Air-YO's™ sail is fairly important. Don't crank it too tight. The sail needs a tiny amount of slack to perform best. If your Air-YO™ flies weird, it could need a tension adjustment. Play some with both inner and outer tension lines. Humidity can be a large factor in this.

Avoid playing with your Air-YO™ over concrete or other abrasive surfaces. The Air-YO™ is very light weight and the edge will get torn on the sidewalk and street. Use the scuff guard if you must play over concrete. The Air-YO™ draws lots of attention which can also cause a dangerous distraction to drivers. Stick to the grass of your backyard, a park, or the sand at the beach when the wind is calm. Or go indoors like a basketball gym or the meat section of your local supermarket.

Hints For First Time Flyers

1. Learn to fly the Air-YO™ in no wind. Even small amounts of breeze can influence the fight pattern of the Air-YO™. Learn to control this later.

2. For continuous controlled flight, try to slow down (absorb) the Air-YO™ before changing the direction of the Air-YO™. Once the Air-YO™ has nearly stopped, promptly send it in the new direction.

3. If you like to spin the Air-YO™, spin it one way and then reverse the spin the next time. If the line becomes twisted, disconnect the Air-YO™ and remove the twists in the line. Twists lead to tangles. The Air-YO™ does not require a spin to fly. Remove tangles as soon as possible, they only make more tangles.

4. Keep the tip of the control rod below the desired flight path of the Air-YO™. When launching the Air-YO™ from the ground, holding the control rod down like a golf club is a good way to control altitude and stay safe.

5. Learn to do a triangle. Launch the Air-YO™ from the ground. Fly the Air-YO™ across, and as it flies past you, turn to face it. As it gets to the end of the line, pull the Air-YO™ in a new direction that forms the first corner of your triangle. As it passes you a second time, turn and face it and make your second corner. The Air-YO™ will have traveled all the way around the spot you're standing. Keep this going and gain speed. Make more and more sides to your shape. Smooth this out completely and you'll have done an orbit around your body... or a circle from a bird's eye view, with you in the middle.

Common problems when learning to fly the Air-YO™

Problem 1: Instead of flying flat, the Air-YO™ turns down and heads for the ground.

Solutions: Check that the following points are correct.

1a. Your Air-YO™ has the outer draw string edge facing upward.

1b. The control line extends down below the center point of your Air-YO™.

Problem 2: The Air-YO™ flips upward and faces you like an 'O'. As you continue to pull, the Air-YO™ begins to spiral and usually hits the ground. Wind will almost always lead to this.

Solutions:
2a. First, try to predict when this will happen. As it happens, try to (A) briefly gain altitude, then, with your feet, jump towards the Air-YO™. Slack the line quickly by also (B) pointing your control rod at the Air-YO™. If your timing is right, (C) the Air-YO™ will flatten out again by sliding out and away from you. This is the reverse of most people's reflex (pulling harder).

2b. Begin to understand this better: First, direct the Air-YO™ on a high flight path up over your head. Then, change your motion of the control rod. Instead of the back and forth motion that you first learned, pull straight down repeatedly on your Air-YO™. Did the Air-YO™ do what you thought it would? Did it look familiar? Keep trying. Many of the advanced tricks are in this area of control.
